Annual Faculty Writing Retreat

The Rhode Island College Writing Center will offer two week-long faculty writing retreats during 2012, preliminarily scheduled May 21-25 and August 14-17.  In addition to having a dedicated writing space, participants may request responses to their work and/or advice regarding specific writing-related issues.  Claudine Griggs, director of the writing center and a member of the Authors Guild, facilitates these retreats, which are sponsored by the Office of Academic Support & Information Services (OASIS). 

The retreats offer a quiet working space for participants, but they are not writing seminars.  We keep an informal tally of hours, projects worked on, and the cumulative word count; we reserve an additional room for peer review and/or discussion as needed (and Claudine is also available to read and comment on your work product); and we provide lunch around noon along with drinks and snacks all day.

The schedule can be flexible, but participants are expected to spend six to seven hours per day on writing or writing-related activities and to join the other participants for lunch.  There is a brief kickoff meeting the first morning and a debriefing the final afternoon; otherwise, the time is reserved for writing and research.  If you are interested in the next writing retreat, please contact Claudine Griggs at cgriggs@ric.edu for further information and/or watch the Briefs for announcements.
