Purpose
The Certificate of Graduate Studies (CGS) in Health Psychology provides post-baccalaureate education to people interested in health-related fields of work. The knowledge gained in this program has applications for careers in health-related research, patient care, and public health policy.
Objectives
- To gain knowledge of the major concepts and theoretical perspectives in health psychology.
- To gain n understanding of research design and analysis in health psychology.
- To write effectively and professionally about health psychology.
Program Details
- A minimum of 16 credits to complete
- Small class sizes
- Students may attend part-time or full-time (9+ credits)
Admission Requirements
Admission to the C.G.S. in Health Psychology program is determined by the quality of the total application which includes:
- Completed application form and nonrefundable application fee
- Baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
- Prior coursework in Introductory Psychology and Research Methods.
- Official transcripts from all college-level coursework taken (including courses taken at community colleges and graduate courses)
- Statement of professional goals
- Letters of recommendation that address potential to succeed in a graduate program of study
- Interview may be required
- Plan of Study (see below)
Plan of Study
After being conditionally accepted into the program, applicants will be assigned an academic advisor and must consult with this advisor to develop a Plan of Study (POS). The POS lists the required and elective courses that the student will take to fulfill the requirements of the program, and is filed with the Director of Graduate Programs in the School of Arts & Sciences. The POS and all changes to the POS require prior approval of the Advisor, the department Chair, and the Dean of Arts and Sciences. FORMAL ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM IS NOT COMPLETED UNTIL THE PLAN OF STUDY IS ON FILE IN THE GRADUATE OFFICE.

Deadlines for admission are March 1 and November 1 for the following semester. Applications received after these deadlines will be considered for admission so long as there are available seats.
