Championship Game Tonight (2/23): Anchormen Battle Keene State for LEC Title at 5 p.m. at the Murray Center



The Anchormen beat Southern Maine 61-47 in the Little East Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Friday night. They will compete against rival Keene State in their seventh straight league championship game - a league record - at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Murray Center.

Senior guard Tahrike Carter (Brooklyn, NY) poured in 12 points, gathered eight rebounds and dished out four assists to lead top-seeded Rhode Island College to victory over fourth-seeded Southern Maine in the semifinals of the 2013 Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament, played at the Murray Center on Friday.

Rhode Island College (24-3) is the first team in league history to compete in seven straight LEC title contests.

RIC will face longtime rival and third-seeded Keene State in the Championship Game on Saturday night. The Anchormen have had many memorable battles against the Owls in the LEC Tournament, having defeated KSC in the 2007 finals and in the 2011, '09 and '08 semifinals.

Students, faculty and staff get free admission to tonight's game with ID or pass.

Also last night, the Anchorwomen lost their semifinal match in Gorham, Maine.

Senior forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) scored 17 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out three assists as fifth-seeded Rhode Island College lost to top-seeded Southern Maine, 73-62, in semifinal action of the 2013 Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament played at Hill Gymnasium.

Senior guard Ashley O’Dell (Lincoln, RI) also contributed 11 points, three assists and two steals for the Anchorwomen (16-11). Freshman forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) had nine points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Danielle LeBlanc (Warwick, RI) pitched in with eight points and four assists.
