RIC Responds to Blizzard of 2013
The Blizzard of 2013 dumped nearly two feet of snow on the Rhode Island College campus last Friday, forcing the cancellation of classes on Friday and again on Monday.
RIC crews worked around the clock to clear the roads, sidewalks and parking lots. Others stayed overnight, through the storm, to keep Donovan Dining Center open for the hundreds of students who remained in their dorms.
Gary Penfield, vice president for student affairs, thanked the many people involved, saying, "They did a fabulous job!"
Penfield also noted that the cancellation of classes on Monday resulted in "a smooth opening on Tuesday."
The snow removal crews also received rave reviews from many students, faculty and staff, including this comment posted on the Rhode Island College Facebook page: “Props to Rhode Island College for responding to the storm better than any city in the state.”
