The Rhode Island College Wind Ensemble begins its 2006-07 season with "Rocky
Point Holiday", an evening of music which captures the joys and innocence of
childhood. This concert features Percy Grainger's Children's March, James
Barnes's tour de force "Fantasy Variations", and Ron Nelson's brilliant
overture, "Rocky Point Holiday".

Rhode Island College is proud to count among its faculty some of New England's
finest musicians, and their talents will be on display at 8:00 pm in Sapinsley
Hall on Monday, October 30th. A free-will donation to benefit the Deborah
Griffin Family Memorial Scholarship Fund will be taken. Ms. Griffin was a
much-loved music education student at Rhode Island College in 2000 when she and
four of her five children died tragically in a fire at their Providence
home.

The Rhode Island College Wind Ensemble will join forces with the Roger
Williams University Dance Theatre to present "Songs and Dances", featuring the
world premiere of "Taking Flight" by RIC percussion instructor Michael
DeQuattro, with choreography by Kathy Gordon Smith. Other highlights of the
concert include Igor Stravinsky's "Circus Polka", Frank Zappa's "Dog Breath

their upcoming cd. Kaufman has been a flutist and piccoloist with the New York
Philharmonic since 1979, and has performed as soloist with the NYPO under the
direction of Kurt Masur and Zubin Mehta.

Triton Brass is an exciting musical collaborative comprising five of the
region's most promising young talents. Prize winners at the 2003 Fischoff
International Chamber Music Competition, Triton is in its fourth year as
artists-in-residence at Boston College.

Three ground-breaking American composers will be featured in this concert by the
Rhode Island College Wind Ensemble. The music of Charles Ives, a native of New
England, was almost unknown during his lifetime, but his musical innovations
have steadily grown in esteem, and today he is considered one of the true
pioneers of American classical music. Guest conductor Frank L. Battisti,
emeritus conductor of the New England Conservatory Wind Ensemble and himself an
American original, will lead the RIC Wind Ensemble in Ives's music. Also
featured on the concert will be a world premiere by esteemed composer Barbara
Kolb and The Dog Breath Variations by innovative rock musician Frank Zappa.

Haunting classical style sounds with rock inspired melodies. The Fluttr Effect
Trio, an all-women band characterized by acoustic-style experimentation, is
carried by the melodic power of Vessela Stoyanova's midi marimba, the bass-like
lilt of Valerie Thompson's flower topped cello, and the hypnotizing lead vocals
of Kara Trott.

Choral Music and Opera Choral Scenes of Carlisle Floyd

The 2006-07 Rhode Island College Choral concert season will conclude with this
concert featuring the RIC Chorus, conducted by Teresa Coffman, and the Henry
Barnard School Chorus, conducted by Jay MacCubbin, in a performance of music by
Carlisle Floyd. Featured works include his pieces for elementary treble voices
and concert versions of scenes from his operas The Passion of Jonathan Wade,
Willie Stark, Susannah, and Of Mice and Men. The concert is the culmination of
Mr. Floyd's three-day residency at RIC, during which he will work with the
performers.
