CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRISTIAN LYNCH AND VICTORIA PARKER, CO-WINNERS OF THE JOHN NAZARIAN HONORS SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2012-13.
The Nazarian Honors Scholarship is given to a first-semester student or students entering the General Education Honors Program on the basis of high-school record, SAT scores, and an interview. The $2000 scholarship is being shared this year by Christian, a Nursing major from Cranston High School East, and Victoria, an English major from East Providence High School.

The McMahon Rising Junior Honors Scholarship is given to rising juniors (now seniors) with high GPAs in the General Education Honors Program who are also doing Departmental Honors Projects. This year’s scholarship of $1900 is being shared by Jonathan, who is doing a Political Science honors project titled “An Articulation of the Kantian Social Contract in the Evolution of Reason”; Erica, who is doing a Film Studies honors project titled “Was It a Dream? Psychoanalysis, Dream Theory, and the Films of German Expressionism”; Elyssa, who is doing a Mathematics honors project titled “Ordered Generalized Whist tournaments for v players, v=1 (mod 8)”; and Erin, who is doing a Music honors project titled “Raising Voices: The Interpretation of Renaissance Polyphony.”

Honors Alumna Named RI Teacher of the Year
Education commissioner Deborah Gist, left, congratulates R.I. Teacher of the Year Julie Lima Boyle.
Governor Lincoln Chafee and Education Commissioner Deborah Gist presented Lima Boyle with the award. With this distinction, she is automatically a candidate for the Teacher of the Year national title.
Lima Boyle, who describes herself as "a proud RIC alum," earned bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Rhode Island College. She was in the RIC Honors Program and graduated with General Education Honors, Honors in English and College Honors. Read more...
Honors Student Awarded Two Scholarships
Danielle Trial '12 of New Bedford, Mass., a musical theatre and music education double major and dance minor, recently received two separate scholarships that recognize excellence in teaching.
Trial received the Francis M. Marciniak Memorial Scholarship, awarded by The American Band in October, and the Ed Drew Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Retired Rhode Island Music Educators Association in November. Read more...
