Rationale

Rhode Island College, as an institution of higher learning, is committed to fostering a campus environment which respects and celebrates the dignity and value of all persons. As such, the college educates and employs a diverse population representing persons of different race, color, gender, creed, ethnicity and physical condition.

Powers and Duties

The Committee on Human Relations is a presidential committee which advises the president on matters related to the creation, enhancement and maintenance of positive, collegial human relations among members of the college community. The committee may recommend policies, procedures and activities which will establish, facilitate and maintain an environment conducive to good relations and prohibitive of discrimination toward or mistreatment of any member of the college community. Further, the committee may develop and recommend new programs and/or evaluate proposed programs for educating the campus community to the issues of multicultural understanding, affirmative action and equal opportunity, and gender equity. The committee shall deliver to the president an annual report due no later than May each year.

The Committee on Human Relations consists of an Executive Steering Committee and three subcommittees:

  • Dialogue on Diversity
  • Diversity Week
