American Democracy Project at RIC
The American Democracy Project (ADP) at RIC, one of the state's leading organizations in political engagement, will once again partner with NBC-10 for the election season. On the agenda are congressional primary debates, congressional and senatorial general election debates, a voter registration drive on campus and two panel discussions with state leaders, members of the media and noted academics. The RIC community is also invited to participate in the Presidential DebateWatch.

As seen with the breaking stories of Iran-Contra, Watergate and even Rhode Island's own Plunder Dome, investigative journalists have played a critical role in forcing transparency and accountability on governmental, corporate and public-sector institutions. The importance of these modern-day whistleblowers will be the topic of discussion.
Jim Taricani, an I-Team investigative reporter for NBC 10, WJAR-TV, will moderate the forum.
Panelists include a number of distinguished and award-winning journalists who will reflect on their roles in changing the political dynamic and offer their perspectives on how investigative journalism has been shaped by the forces of increased rancor and partisanship, shrinking budgets, and the explosion of social media.

- Mike Stanton - Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and investigative reporter for the Providence Journal
- Mark Curtis - investigative reporter and political analyst for ABC-6, WLNE-TV.
- Lisa Chedekel - senior writer and co-founder of the Connecticut Health Investigative Team
- Jim Hummel - executive director of the “Hummel Report”
- Josh Israel - senior investigative reporter for ThinkProgress.org

The American Democracy Project began in 2003 as an initiative of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), in partnership with The New York Times. Its goal is to produce graduates who are committed to being active, involved citizens in their communities. The over 220 participating colleges and universities. RIC is the only college in the state to participate in the ADP and is considered one of the leading programs in the country for political and civic engagement, often used as the model for initiatives by other colleges.
